I personally think that the
article is nice to read especially for teenagers like me. However this article
lacks of evidence, and it focuses on the personal view of the author. There are
some fallacies in this article. For example, the author used appeal to
inappropriate authority when he said “ Because I am adult and I know better”.
Eventhough he is an adult, his views may not be relavant at all. That statement
also relates to appeal to emotion. Furthermore, he also the slippery slope
fallacy when he said “smoking is really bad for health. It makes your teeth go
yellow and give a pungent stench to your sweat”. It clearly shows the effect of
smoking. This article look like lack of evidences eventhough the author claim
him self as The Guru of Cool. It can be prove through the statement that “we
have actually found traces of poison in estacy”. It is unsure whether the
author is knowledgeable in the related field and there are no solid evidence to
support his statement.Apart from that, another
fallacy that can be found is appeal to tradition when the author stated “ I
know, some of you are allowed to drink alcohol when you come of age”.
In
conclusion, I think eventhough the article has fallacies, it is still a good
article to be read. I think the author has done the good research but he
should get more strong evidences to support his article in order to attract the
readers.
